Badovini and Barrier make the top 2 for BMW

With the sun finally shining on the famous Monza Autodromo, the S 1000 RRs totally dominated the qualifying session, with the pole position for Ayrton Badovini (BMW Italia) in front of Sylvain Barrier (Garnier Racing BMW).

The French riders did a good job overall with Maxime Berger (Honda) fourth and Matthieu Lussiana (BMW) sixth.

If the first day was difficult, because of a drying and treacherous track, the second session enjoyed a beautiful sunshine. In these ideal conditions, the lap times on Saturday were much quicker than the ones of Friday.

Sylvain Barrier did a very good timed practice session, proving that he has a great talent with the well performing bike that he is riding. Michaël Savary was sixteenth.

Michel Garnier (team manager): “It was useless to go out this morning because of the weather. I was confident for this afternoon with the tyres for a dry track. I was sure we could be on the first row. Our goal was to be just behind Badovini. This is done. We are 3 tenths from the pole. It’s promising. Tomorrow, Sylvain needs a good start. The slipstream will be important and a leading group may dominate. Everything can be decided in the last laps. Michaël started the session well, with good times. I am confident for the race because he always does good races. He should be in the top 10. Thank you to all the people who are helping us.”

Sylvain Barrier: “We didn’t go out this morning to save tyres. With new tyres this afternoon, the sensations were good from the beginning. I did first a fast lap just to make sure. Then we put two new tyres and did a few modifications. When I started again, there were too many riders in my way and I had to slow down. We played the slipstream game with Michaël. Here you have to brake hard, but I didn’t dare to do that in my last lap. Two races ago, we were in a difficult situation. Now it’s going well. Thank you everybody.”

Michaël Savary: “I am happy. The bike was working well. We solved many technical problems. I have good sensations. We had two tyres to do a good qualification. We will work tonight on the chassis and see how it is tomorrow morning during the warm up. I did many consistent laps alone. I did my fastest lap alone, which makes me happy. It will be OK for the race.”
