Good 5th position for Sylvain Barrier

Barrier had a good start and was with the leading group when suddenly the rider in front of him did a big slide in a curve. He kept on going brilliantly and finished 5th, first of the Yamahas and of the French riders.

Gregg Black did very well in the beginning of the race and was for a while in 8th position, but unfortunately he crashed when he touched a very slow rider in front of him.

First of all, Sylvain Barrier’s time from yesterday was cancelled (cut chicane) so he started from the 8th position on the grid.
Sylvain did a good race and was rewarded by the points of the 5th position, which are very useful for the championship. He is now 6th of the FIM Cup, which is satisfying considering that Monza is not easy for the Yamahas, as for instance the Ducatis have a much faster top speed.

Gregg Black is progressing all the time. He had a good start and he could have finished 7th when unfortunately a very slow rider braked far too early in front of him and Gregg could not nothing but hit him. But the beginning of the race was the proof that he can do very well and it will be the case in the future.

Sylvain Barrier: « I was relaxed on the grid and I had a good start. But I had the clutch slipping too much and I had to adjust it. After the first chicane I was in a good group. But Napoleone almost lost it in front of me and lost the slipstream of the riders in front of me, so I couldn’t gain positions. Beretta passed me in the last laps and I tried to pass him back in the last curve but I couldn’t. Thank you everybody.”

Gregg Black: « I had a great start and I was with a good group. I went to 8th position after I overtook Savary. Beretta passed me and I followed him. But then at the end of the straight a very slow rider braked too early in front of me and I ran into him, there was no way to avoid it.”

Michel Garnier (team manager): « Sylvain started from the 8th position on the grid and we knew there was nothing to do against the Ducatis regarding the top speed. We played it cautiously, we did an intelligent race. The team is happy with this race as we are 1st of the Yamahas and 1st of the French riders. The points will be very useful for the championship. We are still developing the bike. Gregg had a good start but was unlucky. Otherwise, he could have finished 7th. He’ll try again in the future. Things are progressing and getting better.”
