Sylvain Barrier did some very good qualifying practices and was in third position on the starting grid.
He had an average start and was 7th at the end of the first lap. He then climbed to the 6th place by the end of the second lap, and he was 5th after 3 laps.
Unfortunately, that was the end of the story as Sylvain crashed. Fighting with Berger, Corti and Beretta, he lost the front in a right hand curve, and couldn’t restart to score a few championship points.
In the lead, Xavier Simeon won a beautiful victory, dominating completely the race. Maxime Berger, who didn’t have a good position on the starting grid, finished second after a nice fight with Xavier Fores who climbed on the third position of the podium.
Sylvain Barrier: “I was very careful at the start because there was a collective crash here last year in the first corner. Then I could gain quickly some positions. But I had some problems with the front brakes and they were worse and worse. It was impossible to stabilize the bike when I was braking. So with the bumps I lost the front.”
Michel Garnier (team manager): “I am disappointed. We had a problem with a front disc. Sylvain couldn’t brake properly, it was necessary for him to keep braking on the angle. We should have used a new disc brake, not an old one. Sylvain had the possibility to maybe catch Fores and to finish fourth or even maybe third. I am really disappointed.”
