First top 10 for Reiterberger

The qualifications for the second race of the season on the very fast track of Monza went well for Markus Reiterberger who finished with a great tenth position, and also for Randy Pagaud who went clearly faster than the day before. Beau Beaton, who like his two team mates was discovering the Italian Autodromo, was not lucky and he crashed, happily without hurting himself.

Markus Reiterberger keeps on progressing regularly and it is impressive that he is with the best ten riders of this championship. All the top 20 riders have raced here but him, including some who participated in an Italian championship race last weekend.  His progression is very impressive.

Randy Pagaud was faster than on Friday and he went closer to the best times. He is learning a lot in this category, which is very good for him to progress and get experience.

Beau Beaton would have had a much better result without a crash in the Ascari chicane, where his bike pushed him against the airfences. Happily he is not hurt, but of course he is disappointed.

The pole position went to the Ducati of Davide Giugliano, followed by the three BMWs of Sylvain Barrier, Michele Magnoni and Lorenzo Zanetti.

Michel Garnier (team owner): “The session went well. Randy is 22nd and faster than yesterday. Beau was unlucky, he lost the front and crashed, finishing 25th. Markus was 10th fastest, which is really great considering we had some problems with the brake pads when we changed his rear wheel. So he is great, especially here in Monza. It’s fantastic. Tomorrow is race day, he will start from the third row and I think he can do something good. We are confident.”

Markus Reiterberger: “Yesterday the engine broke, and this morning it was not as good as I wanted it. But the qualifying session was good. Peter Goddard helped me to set the suspension. After five laps, I changed the rear tyre. We had a few problems changing the tyre. So I only had three laps at the end. But tenth position is OK for me and we’ll see tomorrow.”

Randy Pagaud: “It was a good qualifying session. I started with used tyres to work on the two small chicanes where I was losing 1.5 seconds. I could progress with used tyres, which was positive. With 20 minutes to go, I put a new rear tyre. Then I could do two quick laps, including one in 1′48.7. I am 2.7 seconds away from the pole position, which is rather fine. I went one second faster than yesterday. It’s positive. I am happy.”

Beau Beaton: “It was very difficult, very disappointing to be honest. We didn’t move forward at all. I had a crash, put it into the wall, with the bike against me into the wall at Ascari. Then the guys straighten the handlebars a bit in the pit lane. I tried to go out and do a few more laps but it was not enough. It was not possible. It’s no fun at all.”
