Sylvain Barrier fourth

After several good races, including a podium finish at Valencia, Barrier had a difficult time with three consecutives crashes, without being responsible for all of them. At the Nürburgring, he went back to his normal pace and finished fourth. There are two more races at Imola and the Garnier Racing Team Junior’s home track at Magny-Cours to gain a few positions in the championship.

On the Eifel track in Germany, Antonelli (Honda) was the quickest at the start in front of Berger (Honda), Giugliano (Suzuki), Baz (Yamaha), Badovini (BMW) and Barrier (BMW). Antonelli was the leader for the first two laps, and then Maxime Berger in great shape took the lead. The Frenchman opened a big gap, while Antonelli in second position could resist to Badovini until lap seven (out of eleven). Sylvain at that moment was in fourth position, fighting with Loris Baz.

Badovini after that caught Berger, passing him with two laps to go. Antonelli was alone in third position. Barrier kept on fighting with Loris Baz, finally finishing in front of him on the finish line.

This is the eighth consecutive victory this year for the 2010 champion Ayrton Badovini on his BMW. There are two races to go for him to realize an historic hat trick. There are also to events for Sylvain go gain a few positions in the championship standings and the whole team is behind him.

Michel Garnier (team owner): “I am disappointed by this fourth position. This is not our real place. We missed the podium. We are saving some points, but we could have finished third.”

Sylvain Barrier: “At the start, I had a problem with the clutch that stuck too quickly. I was seventh, and then the traction control disconnected. The settings became not adapted to the new situation. It was impossible to follow the riders in front without traction control. We almost collided with Loris Baz, but by the end I pulled away. It’s a good thing I finish in front of Magnoni and Giugliano.”
